Saw palmetto is basically a fruit of the plant Serenoa repens, native to America. It is rich in natural fatty acids and phytosterols. It is used in reproductive organ problems, Mayans in ancient times drank it as a tonic. Traditionally it was used in weakness (asthenia) and expectorant as well. It works really well in Benign prostatic hyperplasia. It’s cooling in nature. It is not recommended in pregnancy and lactation because of due to anti-androgenic and estrogenic activity. It has also been used in baldness in men.
